November 17, 2025Mary IkokuGeneralNo Comments

Armed bandits have struck again, this time targeting Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. The attackers, who arrived at around 4 a.m. on Monday, November 17, overpowered police tactical units and abducted 25 female students from their hostel.

The Vice Principal, Hassan Makuku, was shot dead while trying to protect the students, and another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained an injury on his right hand. The police have confirmed the incident and deployed a combined team of tactical units, military personnel, and vigilantes to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators
The Kebbi State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, appealing for calm and vigilance. The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, has reiterated the command’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Deputy Governor, Umar Tafida, has been dispatched to the school to assess the situation, and the state government is working closely with security agencies to rescue the abducted students

This incident is the latest in a string of school abductions in Nigeria, highlighting the need for increased security measures to protect students and educational institutions.

Moms Africa is deeply concerned about the escalating insecurity in Nigeria, particularly the brazen attacks on schools and the abduction of innocent students. This latest incident is a stark reminder of the government’s failure to protect its citizens, especially the most vulnerable. We demand that the authorities take immediate and concrete actions to ensure the safe release of the abducted girls and bring the perpetrators to justice. The lives of Nigerian children are not bargaining chips, and it’s time for the government to act decisively to protect them. We stand in solidarity with the affected families and the people of Kebbi State, and we will continue to demand accountability from our leaders.
