Arochukwu, Abia State – January 5, 2026 The Mary Ikoku Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to love-driven humanitarian service with the successful hosting of the 2025 Free Nkwo Market Day on December 30th and 31st in Arochukwu, Abia State.

The highly anticipated annual outreach touched the lives of over 2,000 vulnerable families, who shopped for food and household essentials all for free using a specially designed Love Currency.

The visionary behind the initiative, Hon. Mary Ikoku a development expert, Media strategist and House of Reps Hopeful continues to model innovative ways of delivering hope and dignity to underserved communities.

This year’s edition featured a vibrant marketplace stocked with essentials including garri, yam, rice, beans, meat, condiments, clothing, and more all available to beneficiaries without using legal tender. Instead, they used Love Currency, a symbolic means of exchange created by the Foundation to restore dignity and eliminate the stigma often associated with aid.

Two supporters were recognised with branded stores:
– Benjamin Kalu Foundation Store, named in honour of the Deputy Speaker, who supported with food and relief items.

– Masters Energy Store, showcasing Masters Noodles and other products from Masters Energy Group.

Women from the Aka Ajaja Project, an initiative under the Mary Ikoku Foundation played a key role in food production and logistics. Their contributions included farm-grown garri, yams, water yams, and vegetables, underscoring the Foundation’s emphasis on local empowerment and sustainable development.

Participants also gained knowledge through skill acquisition sessions in confectionery making and soap production, while OlivePay offered financial literacy training and onboarded locals into digital payment systems.
Testimonials from Beneficiaries:
“Last year, I left this market with food and joy. This year, I came back and received even more. May God bless the Mary Ikoku Foundation.”
— Mama Christy, Beneficiary

“They taught us how to bake and make soap. I didn’t just receive, I learned. This experience has changed my outlook.”
— Chidinma U., Young Beneficiary

Hon. Mary Ikoku, in her address, thanked supporters and reaffirmed the Foundation’s resolve to keep love at the centre of social intervention:
“This initiative is about dignity, empowerment, and restoring hope. We are building a model of giving that uplifts not just individuals but entire communities.”

The overwhelming turnout extended the market to December 31st, giving more families access. The event was peaceful, joyful, and expertly coordinated by foundation members and volunteers.

Once again, the Mary Ikoku Foundation raised the bar in community outreach, blending compassion, strategy, and innovation to build a better future for Arochukwu and beyond.
