The Agony of an African Girl Child. Mothers, let’s talk!

October 9, 2019Mary IkokuGeneralNo Comments

I am vexed this morning as I write this article. What sort of madness is going on our communities. Women and mothers arise! Let us fight for the future of our female children. Just yesterday morning, Human Rights Radio had discussed a lady who was constantly being raped by her father and when she dared talk her mother about it at the age of 12, the mother shut her up. And with abortions from time to time, she finally has no womb at the age of 25 and now she is contemplating suicide because she got rejected by a man who promised to marry her when he found out about the womb issue (they went for check up). Do not forget the sex for grades story that is all over the social media. Just this morning as well, I woke up to the video of a 2 year old child being asked to clean the chairs in school, the male teacher pulled down her trousers and was beating her bare butted. As if that was not enough, now I’m hearing that a 10 year old was married off yesterday somewhere in Ibadan, Oyo State. I mean, are we all deranged in this country? What exactly is happening in this part of the world? Sometimes, I wish i could be everywhere at once but I can’t be which is I’m putting this into writing. We need to get up and do the needful. Hey! African mothers, do you not think we are failing? How did we raise a generation of male vipers who have no self worth, no mercy, no sense of equity, who feel either threatened by the female gender or even believe they are a specie to be trampled upon. How?! It marvels me, I can’t help but sob. I mean, how does a mother intentionally marry off a 10 year old girl. Is it poverty? So after marrying her off, has your poverty status changed? What do you expect of a lady that has been abused? She probably becomes highly sexual driven, is mentally unstable and a host of other problems wrong beneath that supposed smiling face you see. Oh, let us start with enlightening people cos I’ll be damned to know that some cultures support child marriage in Africa. Hell, do I still need to explain why the society is backward and produces damaged citizens and no social security whatsoever?Nigerian mothers, stand up and fight! Be aggressive about this. There’s a lot of harm being done to the female gender and they can’t even discuss it just because the society will either not listen or criticize them starting with their families even. 4 of every 5 girl have been abused in any form you can think of. Have you the enlightened or literate ones considered that it could be your child too? A lot of immoralities going on in this part of the world. Let the sane men join the struggle too. But what do I know when the men are even going around, cheating on their wives, producing more children with multiple women that they cannot care for causing more harm to innocent children and then to the society at large or that even our politicians are involved. Almost every sector is failing us, Nigerians, Africans, please arise and protect yourself, fight for the future of our children, fight for the country, fight for your fellow women that have no one to sora for them, teach them and above all fight for yourself!
